9th grade - Health
The sperm and
the egg and fetus development
Students will
work in partners to read Chapter 11 “The big race” and Chapter 12 “A warm and
cozy womb”. Students will then complete
a cause and effect chart to explain the impregnation process and fetus
development. Students will then be expected to share findings and make
connections between the two readings. After students have completed this
activity, the teacher will lead discussion about readings and students can make
inquiries.
9th grade Health Education
(3) Health information. The student
recognizes the importance and significance of the reproductive process as it
relates to the health of future generations. The student is expected to:
(A) explain fetal development from conception
through pregnancy and birth;
(B) explain the importance of the role of
prenatal care and proper nutrition in promoting optimal health for both the
baby and the mother such as breast feeding;
(C) analyze
the harmful effects of certain substances on the fetus such as alcohol,
tobacco, other drugs, and environmental hazards such as lead; and
(D) explain
the significance of genetics and its role in fetal development.
