We are the ship

Nelson, K. (2008). We are the ship. NY: Hyperion.

Negro baseball players were excluded from playing professional baseball until the mid 1940s. However, this did not mean that Negro ball players would sit by idly and wait. Faced with no option, a new league open to Negros was formed. Andrew “Rube” Foster organized players and began organizing Negro league baseball as well.  This is not the story of one star player or significant contributor, but rather a collection of the people who made this league possible.
